Description:
The Kings Playhouse is a historic 300 seat theatre located in the heart of Georgetown, PEI. The history of this theatre dates back to1897, a dating that grants us the honour of being the “longest consecutive running theatre” in all of Canada. This theatre was completely destroyed by fire on March 3, 1983, and with the undying passion of many volunteers, was rebuit and opened to the public, 14 months after the fire. This facility stands as the main gathering place of the community, and invites thousands of visitors a year to walk through our doors and enjoy the beauty it so beholds.
In August of 2009, the theatre was the recipient of grants from the Federal and Provincial Governments totalling over $600,000, and we are currently in the process of major renovations to the existing facility, and adding on another 3200 sq.ft which will house our new lobby and state of the art washroom facilities. We are looking forward to our grand opening in May of 2010. When complete, this building will have received a total of $160,000 worth of new sound and lighting equipment, which will enable us to showcase the most incredible talent PEI will ever hear. We will be able to host meetings and conventions, offering them state of the art audio visual equipment and power point capability. Our new facility will seat another 150 people, allowing us to host weddings and receptions to all people across PEI.
